Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

Check it before they join, not after something goes wrong

Most CV misrepresentation is not dramatic. It is a stretched date range, an inflated title or a qualification that was never completed. All three are cheap to catch and expensive to discover later.

In short

What is background verification?

Employee background verification is the process of independently confirming what a candidate has stated: previous employment and dates, education and qualifications, permanent and current address, government identity, criminal record and professional references. BridgePoint delivers verification reports with a documented evidence trail, typically within five to seven working days per candidate, as part of a placement or as a standalone service for your own hires.

What's included

What you actually get

Every item below is part of the standard engagement, not an upsell.

01

Employment verification

Dates, designation, reporting line, reason for leaving and eligibility for rehire, confirmed with the employer's HR of record.
02

Education verification

Degree, institution, year and enrolment status confirmed with the university or board, not just a certificate image.
03

Address and identity

Permanent and current address confirmation, plus government-ID validation.
04

Criminal record check

Court-record and police-verification checks appropriate to the role and jurisdiction.
05

Reference checks

Structured conversations with named former managers on actual performance and working style.
06

Documented report

A written report per candidate with evidence, discrepancy flags and a clear status: clear, discrepant or unable to verify.

Scope

How engagements are shaped

2 checks

Basic

Identity and employment — the minimum for high-volume and support roles.

4 checks

Standard

Identity, address, employment and education. The usual package for permanent hires.

6 checks

Enhanced

Adds criminal record and reference checks. Standard for roles with financial or data access.

Full

Leadership

Everything above plus directorship, litigation and media checks for senior appointments.

Deliverables

  • Written verification report per candidate with evidence attached
  • Clear status per check: clear, discrepant, or unable to verify
  • Discrepancy summary with severity assessment
  • Turnaround tracking against agreed SLA
  • Audit-ready documentation trail
  • Consent records collected from every candidate

Scope and deliverables are confirmed in writing before work begins. If something here does not apply to your situation, we take it out rather than bill for it.

Process

How the work runs

01

Understand

A working session on what you actually need — the role, the mandate or the outcome. We put the brief in writing and you sign it off before work starts.

02

Plan

A scoped plan with owners, timelines and the numbers we will report against. If the brief is unrealistic on budget, market or timeline, we say so here.

03

Execute

Delivery against the plan, with a weekly written update whether or not there is good news. Silence is not a status report.

04

Review

Results measured against what we agreed at the start, with an honest read on what worked, what did not, and what we would change next cycle.

FAQ

Background Verification — questions

How long does background verification take?

Five to seven working days for a standard four-check package. Criminal-record checks and verification with some universities can extend to ten to twelve working days — we report interim status rather than holding the whole file.

What happens if you find a discrepancy?

We report it with the evidence and a severity read, and we do not make the hiring decision for you. A six-week date overlap and a fabricated degree are both discrepancies, but they are not the same problem.

Do you need the candidate's consent?

Yes, and we collect and retain it. Verification without documented consent is a legal exposure for you, not just for us.

Can you verify candidates we sourced ourselves?

Yes. Verification is available as a standalone service for your own hires, at the same packages and SLAs.

What if a previous employer refuses to respond?

It happens, particularly with closed businesses and some smaller firms. We document the attempts made and report the check as 'unable to verify' rather than quietly marking it clear.
